"Home is Where the Heart Is"

Hello to all,
I am back in the states. Today marks two weeks since I said my goodbyes and got on a plane(against my will) and returned to Alabama. I can't believe its only been two weeks. It feels like it has been two months. My heart hurts so much for the people of Honduras when I am away. My heart is forever there. I would like to give you all an update on me and a short overview of my whole trip. I honestly don't know if I can even give you and overview of my whole time in Honduras, because its impossible for you to understand or grasp the experiences I had. But I will try.

First I want to ask for you all to please lift up my dear friend Maria. Maria is a tia at the children's home. She is in charge of the food and clothing. She is one of the most beautiful ladies, inside and out, that I have ever met. I love her to death. We had some amazing conversations, considering the language barrier, while I was at the home. Maria's husband was killed in a car accident yesterday, Friday. Arlas, Maria's husband, use to be a tutor at the children's home, but he recently got a job as a teacher in a different part of Honduras. He and the other teachers were traveling back from school and were killed. I don't know many details about the accident. Arlas, leaves behind a lovely wife and two wonderful children. Please lift up this family in your prayers and thoughts. Thank you.

So, like I said I have been back in the states for two weeks now. I have been very busy and occupied, which has been good so my mind is not constantly dwelling on Honduras. I got back on Saturday, June 29, and the next morning, Sunday, I was on the road to Fort Walton to visit with my cousin and her husband for a few days. It was a very relaxing few days. Mom and I came home from the beach on July 4 and I was at my "home" in Gardendale for a total of 1 hour max. I hit to road and was ttown bound. I was in Tuscaloosa for July 4th night with some friends and had class the next morning. After my class on Friday, the 5th, I hit the road again and traveled west to Southaven, MS. I got to visit with Bailey, Morgan, Hannah, and Gigi. They were four amazing girls I became life long friends with in Honduras. I am so blessed by their friendships. Thank you God for them. I traveled back to Tuscaloosa on Sunday, the 7th, and have been here ever since. I had my first full week of class. I am taking a math class and an online sociology class. I returned back to work this week as well. It has been good to be back around children. If I can't be around my little Honduran babies, I guess I will have to surround myself with my babies from work. It has been a busy two weeks, but I am so blessed for these busy weeks. Last year I got back and had nothing to do and my mind was constantly dwelling on Honduras. My heart ached every day. Also this past week marked a year that my meme passed away. I can't believe it ahs been a full year since she passed away and entered into eternity with her maker. I am so jealous of you Meme!!! I can't wait for the day I am able to see my Savior face to face. Oh what a glorious day that will be! Praise God!

Alright, so here goes a quick overview of my time in Honduras. I experienced God's love and peace in different ways every day. It was amazing. Like I said before no one will ever understand my passion or love for Honduras until they experience it for themselves. So I encourage you, GO! Go get your passport and GO TO HONDURAS. It will change your life, promise! So while I was in Honduras I was able to do some pretty cool things. I was able to meet so many amazing people. This is a major pro to staying long term at the Good Shepherd Children's Home. I was able to meet so many different visitors and translators. I have made some life long friendships through staying there for two months this summer. Another cool thing I was able to do was learn a lot more Spanish. I was suppose to have a translator, but things came up and was unable to have one. I fully think it was the Lord pushing me out of my comfort zone and forcing me to learn Spanish. I had some amazing conversations with people who didn't speak any English. I was able to listen to others speak and pick up on words and memorize words and phrases. It was awesome. I fully believe the only way you will ever learn a language is to be fully emerged in a culture. & that was what God gave me. I am thankful for it. Another cool thing I got to experience was a USA vs. Honduras soccer game. Not only was it a game it was a qualifying game for the World Cup. & might I add, USA WON!!!!! It was soo much fun to rub it in the faces of the kids and workers at the home. hahaha I also got to see the Jamaica soccer team in the airport in Teguc. They played Honduras a week before Honduras and USA played. It was so cool to see them up close and personal. They are sooo BIG! haha Ohhh I was a nurse to 4 teenage girls who got their wisdom teeth out. We traveled to the Baptist Hospital to have the surgery for the girls and two other teenage boys. It was so cool to be able to see all of the stuff that goes on at the hospital. I spent my 21st birthday in Honduras and USA. I was able to celebrate my birthday in two countries. I bet most people can't say that! Alisson, the pastor's wife, made special Alabama cupcakes and a pizza for me on my birthday! It was the best welcoming/birthday present. I was able to serve alongside of my church here in Tuscaloosa. We were able t give Alisson and Abner a baby shower for their baby that is coming in October. I am so excited for baby Ian to be here!!! He is going to be spoiled! haha Speaking of babies, I was able to become a "tia" or aunt to my lovely "sobrina", Liana Genesis Patricia. Liana is a four-month old baby who came to live at the home when she was one day old. She is the precious child that stole my heart for forever. I have never felt so much love for someone ever before. I am in love with that baby. I was able to make several different Honduran dishes. I was able to teach my first lesson ever. I taught English class to the fourth grade one day. I was able to go to the mall and movies one Saturday night with Julie, a missionary, and the girls who live in the transition home. Over all this summer in Honduras was one for the record books. I had the best time. The Lord taught me so much about himself and about myself. I need to rely on and trust the Lord way more than I do. God taught me what reckless faith is. I read a book called "Reckless Faith" by Beth Guckenburger while in Honduras. I would like to encourage you all to go read it. It is amazing! God really spoke to me a lot through the book. I am so thankful for every moment and every day I had in Honduras. I tried to take every breathe in and savor it. It is all now a memory that will be with my for forever. God has given me an amazing peace leaving Honduras this time. He has promised me that He will bring me back to the land that I love and will finish out the ministry He started in me. I am excited for the future and a possible life in Honduras. God is doing great things in my life and I couldn't be more excited to follow HIS PLAN. There will be bumps, rough days, storms, rainbows, mountain tops, and happy days, but I know at the end of the tunnel I will see God! His light at the end of the tunnel is what keeps me going.

Well I hope that was a short and small glimpse into my summer in Honduras. I hope you have all enjoyed my blog entries. I know it was not as many entries as I would have liked. God did amazing things. I do not get the credit nor do I want the credit for what happened in Honduras GIVE THE GLORY TO GOD! Thank you to all of you who supported me in all ways. I love you all so much. I pray God would bless you and your family. I hope you all will stay in touch with my blog throughout the year. LET'S SEE WHERE GOD LEADS ME NEXT!
