On the Edge

Week three is more than half way done. I can’t believe that I have been here this long. It feels like I have only been here for a few days. Time flys by when you are having the time of your life. The Lord has been doing some amazing things in the past week or so. I have been very busy, but I have had enough time to sit and relax as well.
Last time I wrote I was expressing how I have been lost and confused at why the Lord has me here. I think I have realized part of my answer out. First and foremost, Trisha has needed lots of helping hands with getting everything on the website updated. I have resized every child in the home and now I am interviewing every child in the home about the things they like to do and about themselves. This will soon be available for all the sponsors and future sponsors to learn and know what their child is like. I am very happy to do this. It has given me a chance to get to know every child in the home in some way. Second reason why I believe God has called me here is to pour into my four children that I sponsor. I have gotten to spend a lot of time with them. I have gotten a chance to understand some of the things they are going through and their frustrations. I have been able to be “that” light that we, as believers, are called to be. I have also gotten to pour into some of the teenage girls’ lives. They have been such a sweet blessing to me. I have adopted a little brother as well. His name is Alexis. He is currently planning on coming back with me in my bag. He told me he wanted me to adopt him. It made me smile so big. He is a precious little boy who is crazy and wild. One day last week I woke up to him screaming my name as he walked by “casa verde” on the way to school.
Last Thursday was Reina De Las Flores. It is a “flower girl” pageant. They have this yearly at the school. The little girls participate in it. My little Lupe was in it. She was beautiful. As each girl walked out the announcer talked about things about each girl. One of the things was who the girls admired. Lupe said she admired me. I almost broke down in tears when they said that. The Lord defiantly has me here for a reason.
We have had lots of visitors come in and out since I have been here. A group came by last Friday for about an hour. Cory Thomas was on the team! A great surprise of seeing someone from the states that I knew was fab! Haha We have a girl here this week for a week. Her name is Kristen. She is so sweet. She has worked with the kids in the counseling center. We also have a girl here for a month. Her name is Bailey. She is a sweet girl from Miss. State. We are representing the SEC in Honduras. On Saturday we will have FBC Tuscaloosa! The kids are so excited about having them back. I am excited about seeing some familiar faces. This group has a lot planned with the children. It will be a fun packed week at GSCH.
I have been out to the schools with Kevin McKenzie twice. It has been a great time getting to meet children outside of the home and sharing the Gospel with them. The Lord truly has blessed every ministry here that the GSCH has. I will have a few more opportunities to go out to the schools and share the Gospel with the children around the villages. Please pray for these children to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior.
The new GSCH pastor moved in on Monday. Abnor and his wife, Allison, are an answer to prayers for years. He will preach his first sermon tonight. He was supposed to preach last night, but church was canceled due to weather. Please pray that a lot of the spiritual issues that the kids are having will soon be solved now with a pastor to lead the church. I believe that the Lord is on the break of doing some amazing stuff in these kids’ lives and the devil is doing all he can to stop the Lord. But my God will not be stopped. The Lord will do his will no matter what. I ask that you pray with me for the Lord to have a revival in the GSCH. My God is not dead, he is surely alive!
Thank you again for all the prayers and sweet notes left here and on facebook. The Lord has truly blessed me. I love you all very much. Can’t wait to tell you all about the things the Lord is going to do the rest of my time here.

Hola de Honduras!

Hola!
As you most all know I have been in Honduras now for a week. This first week has been exciting, tiring, and confusing with trying to get into a routine of things. My flight went smooth and great. I met up with Trisha, Kelly, Tess, and Pat in the airport. We then went to eat lunch then headed to the home. Arriving at the home was a feeling like no other. I was so excited and had butterflies all in my stomach. Seeing the kids run up to me and give me the biggest hugs was a memory I will never forget.
For the first few days Tess, a girl who is here to teach English to the children, Waleska, my interpreter, and I walked around and played with the children. We were just getting a feel for the place. On the third day we sat down with Trisha and did an orientation type meeting to go over all the task we are here to do and what our expectations are. This is when I was assigned one of the major tasks of sizing every child in the home. The home’s records are not up to date. This project took about 5-6 days to complete, but it is all done and updated. I was very proud of myself, Waleksa, and Tess for accomplishing such a big task.
Another highlight of my first week has been, of course, the children! I have spent a lot of time with my sponsor kids and I have adopted a new one.haha His name is Alexis. He is a precious young boy who loves to follow me around and play all the time. He runs my battery down, just a tad. Haha But I love every minute of it. I have gotten to walk the children to school about 3 out 5 days I have been here. They did not have school Monday and Tuesday because they are putting a roof over the middle part of the school.  I have also gotten to know some of the college students that stay in “casa verde” with Kelly and Trisha and us girls. They are a lot of fun. We have played Wii several nights. Oh and let’s just say, I win most of the time. Haha I have killer dance moves. We have also watched some movies, but mostly just laughed and enjoyed each other’s company.
Some things I have to get use to are that it gets dark at 6pm where in Alabama it gets dark at 7:30pm or 8pm. The girls and I have been making jokes about it. We feel like grandmas going to bed at 9pm because Tess and I are in college and college students don’t see the bed, normally, until midnight or later. Haha Of course, we are getting up about 7am every morning so the sleep is very much needed some nights. But I think the biggest thing I have had trouble getting use to is THE RAIN! It rains every day. I have not seen one day without rain since I arrived. But of course it is the rainy season and that means it will be like this until September.
This week has been troubling a little too. I came to Honduras because I knew the Lord wanted me here, but I do not know why. And that is a big question I have been troubled with. But I am trusting in the Lord with all I have. I have been burdened with a lot of prayer request just within this first week. So please lift up a prayer for me while I pray for a lot of stuff that is going on here within the home. Satan is trying to do all he can to stop what the Lord wants done here, but I have some news for Satan. My God has already won and we, believers and followers of Christ, will not give up in prayer and obedience to the Lord.
Thank you to everyone who has been praying for me. The Lord is working in my life and I am excited to see what he has in store for me in the future. But right now I am taking one day at a time. I love you all so much! I miss you all. Special shout out to my precious momma. I love you momma! I hope you all are serving the Lord with all you have where ever you are.

Peace out America

As I sit in my room with my bags packed and about to lay my head down in my beautiful, air conditioned home I think WOW! I am at a loss of words knowing that when I wake up at 2:30am I will be getting ready to head to the airport. It is finally here! I have been counting down the days since I got word I was going back to Honduras. God has blessed me and given me the privilege to go back and serve him.

As I am in Honduras I will be loving on the kids in the children's home and I will also be going to the villages around the home and sharing the Gospel. I am very excited about the evangelism aspect because I need to step out of my comfort zone. This whole trip is about leaving all the comfort and security I have in Alabama.

As you all know I am very excited, but I am very anxious and nervous. I would be a little worried if I was not nervous. I am flying international by myself. But there is only one person that can give me peace and comfort and his name is Jesus. He is my prince of peace. I want to ask you all to lift me up in your prayers tomorrow as I travel. The weather forecast is predicting rain showers in ATL and in Honduras tomorrow. Please pray that the rain showers would hold off for take off and landing. Most of you all know that it is already extremely hard to land in Teguc. But it is is more difficult when it is raining, because the short runway is more slick and harder to stop the plan. So please pray for the Lord's protection and his will to be carried out. Also, lift up my sweet and amazing parents. They will need the comfort and peace of our Savior within the next five weeks, especially tomorrow. Saying goodbye to my parents will be the hardest thing I have to do tomorrow. Tears will be shed. But Christ has compelled me to go and I must go. That means leaving my parents and friends behind.

Thank you again to all the people who have given towards my trip, prayed for me and my trip, and who have encouraged me through the past few months. IT IS FINALLY TIME! Wahooo! Praise YOU JESUS! I love you all. See you later America!
